Loy Lake Park
Loy Lake Park is located at the northwest corner of Highway 75 and Loy Lake Road inside Pioneer Village. Due to the limited bank fishing opportunities and no trail system at this park, this water body is a great place to explore and fish. The lake has a put in location for kayaks on the north side of the lake. Herman Baker Park
Herman Baker Park is located in Sherman, Texas at 2500 W. Center Street. The park has a walking trail around the water body. The parking lot is a short walk to the lake. The lake does have fish for those that have a fishing license and want to fish from on the water versus the bank.
Waterloo Lake
Waterloo Lake is located in Denison, Texas. It is a large regional park with hiking and biking trails around the park. The lake has egrets and raptors as well as fish. For those that have their fishing license and want to fish the west side of the lake, kayaks provide a good way to fish the deeper parts of the lake without the entanglements of bank fishing on the west of the water body. Otherwise, paddling on the lake can be a peaceful and enjoyable experience.
Denison Dam
Below the Denison Dam on the Oklahoma side of the the Red River is a sandy boat ramp that is easily accessible by those wanting to fish or recreate on the river. For those that want to fish, make sure you know which state you are in on the river. Part of it is in Texas and part is in Oklahoma. Each has their own fishing license. Striper are often plentiful after a dam release of water. Please note that when water is being released from the dam, the current is quite strong and it is very difficult to paddle upstream back to the boat ramp.
Hagerman Wildlife Refuge - Big Mineral Arm
Hagerman Wildlife Refuge is a true gem of the area. Whether driving through the refuge in your vehicle or paddling on the water there is plenty to see. There birds of all types in the refuge. Paddling the Big Mineral Arm or Lake Texoma shoreline offers plenty to see, although windy days on Lake Texoma can be very challenging. Seeing the various fish and wildlife in the refuge is a great experience! If you are wanting to fish while paddling, please not the Lake Texoma has its own fishing license which can be purchased from either state’s wildlife department webpage or from many local sporting goods or tackle shops.
